What are toxins in the body?

Detoxification is a function continuously carried out by the emunctories, or elimination organs, of our body. These organs include the liver and gallbladder, kidneys, lungs, colon, and skin. And although they are extremely well designed and efficient, there are a few simple things we can do every day to boost their effectiveness. Eliminating the many toxins from our body begins above all with our diet and what we give our body. We therefore recommend starting the day with a small lemon detox juice to stimulate the liver. You should then favor certain foods (preferably seasonal), such as artichoke (found in our detox gummies), beetroot, broccoli, black radish, and watercress, while of course limiting all stimulants such as alcohol, tobacco, etc. Instead, choose water and herbal teas. Discover 4 more tips to put into practice!

How can we eliminate toxins from our body?

Dry brushing

Dry brushing is a solution with many benefits that gently stimulates the skin, unclogs pores, and stimulates the underlying circulatory and lymphatic systems, which transport toxins for elimination. Here's how:

  • Use a natural-bristle brush.
  • Using circular movements, gently brush the entire surface of your body, except for your face. Start at the soles of your feet, always moving toward the liver, and finish with the palms of your hands. Pay particular attention to the inside of your thighs, your neck, and your armpits.
  • Brush for approximately 1 minute, ideally in the evening or before showering.

Oil pulling

In Ayurvedic medicine, oil pulling (or gandush) is an oil-based mouth rinse traditionally practiced every morning upon waking to eliminate secretions from the digestive system and the waste products detoxified during the night. This practice is incredibly therapeutic and known for its many benefits, since the mouth is said to reflect our overall state of health. Here's how:

  • Upon waking, put one tablespoon of the oil of your choice (preferably sesame or coconut oil) in your mouth.
  • Rinse your mouth with the oil for 15-20 minutes, working it over all your teeth and every area of your gums (really aim to get the oil into every nook and cranny of your mouth. This is very important. Billions of microorganisms live in the oral cavity, and the mouth is the gateway to the digestive system).
  • Spit the oil into a trash can to avoid clogging your sink ;)

Alternating hot and cold exposure

Tissues can become inflamed when toxins accumulate in certain parts of the body, causing various disorders and unpleasant symptoms. Stimulating the lymphatic system through alternating hot and cold exposure acts like a kind of pump, helping to reduce the accumulation of toxins in the body and ease inflammation. Waste products are then transported more efficiently by the lymphatic system to the elimination organs.

Saunas

Saunas help put our body into “rest” or parasympathetic mode, which is the state required to activate all the detoxification organs. They also stimulate sweating, which in turn encourages the body to eliminate chemicals from personal care and household products, heavy metals, medication residues, food pesticides, etc.

Breathing

By breathing deeply, we absorb more oxygen, which cleanses the body, and by exhaling deeply, we eliminate more waste; these two actions therefore have a powerful detoxifying effect on our body. In addition, deep breathing causes the diaphragm to expand, which in turn massages your lymphatic system and stimulates the elimination of toxins. Here's how:

  • Take a few minutes each day to focus on inhaling and exhaling.
  • Inhale deeply until you feel your belly fill with air, then hold your breath for 2 to 3 seconds.
  • Exhale slowly until all the air has been expelled.
