Today in the Club Bonheur, we welcome Laure Bouguen

In this episode, Laure Bouguen, founder of the cosmetics and well-being brand Ho Karan, talks to us about hemp, CBD and their virtues. What is the difference between CBD and THC? What are the benefits on the skin? Laure explains to us with all her expertise and passion the benefits of this miracle plant. Are you ready to get better?

What is CBD, is it toxic?

First of all, CBD is the acronym for cannabidiol, it is a cannabinoid present in the flower of the cannabis sativa plant. In this flower there are approximately 120 cannabinoids, there is only 1 which is psychotropic which is THC and there is another which is non-psychotropic but psychoactive (which acts on our senses like caffeine, theine etc.) which is CBD.

It is an increasingly popular molecule (especially in the United States) thanks to its benefits in application and ingestion. The WHO (World Health Organization) has certified that it can be ingested and that it is not a doping product. However, the European Commission has not yet ruled but a decision should be taken in December.

It is not toxic because there is no addictive effect whereas THC has an addictive effect which is not in CBD.

Why do you consume CBD?

Laure consumes CBD in particular to soothe a herniated disc which is quite painful but also for the feeling of relaxation, to relieve the skin of irritations, acne etc.

Why put CBD in cosmetics?

There are 4 claims for the skin regarding CBD: antioxidant (protects against cellular aging), anti-seborrheic, revitalizing and protective of the skin. There are many studies carried out, especially abroad, to validate these attributions.

Are hemp oil and CBD oil the same thing?

Laure explains to us that the plant has several parts: the seeds and the flower. The oil comes from the seeds and in the flowers there are the cannabinoids. When we say CBD oil in the vast majority it is hemp oil, therefore seeds in which we will incorporate additional CBD.

Are there any benefits for acne or other skin conditions?

In the human body we have an endocannabinoid system so we ourselves will secrete cannabinoids endogenously. So yes, CBD will relieve acne thanks to its anti-seborrheic properties.

What precautions should be taken if ingested?

We don't all have the same endocannabinoid system so we will react differently. You must therefore follow the Slow and Low rule: slowly and in small quantities. You should start with 1 time per day then if the effects are weak, you can then increase it a little more.

Many people use CBD oil orally for sleep problems but it is not a sleeping pill, it will just soothe and relieve. The second reason is for the pain! Indeed, a benefit is that of soothing pain because CBD will act directly on sensory neurons.

How to buy CBD made in France?

Today there cannot legally be French CBD because of the THC. Laure's brand (Ho Karan) sources its products from Switzerland because they have found organic producers.

Are there any contraindications, risks of allergies, etc.?

So far no one has found an allergy to CBD but that does not mean that you cannot be allergic to another active ingredient or excipient in the product. If you have extremely sensitive skin, it is best to avoid CBD. For pregnant women, breastfeeding women and young children, Laure prefers to advise against it, not that there are studies which prove that this poses a problem but there are no studies which prove the opposite either.

Can CBD impact the brain in the short or long term?

There is a short-term impact because it is psychoactive but there is no long-term damage to the brain unlike THC.
