Between coronavirus and lockdown, when Schocobons and alcohol during Skype aperitifs took over, it's time to take back control and look after our health for a peaceful summer. How can we easily take care of ourselves? How can we look after our physical and mental health? Here are a few health tips to put into practice every day to keep illness at bay for good.
8 health tips for enjoying a summer holiday in great shape.
The difficult period and its problems are over; holidays are above all a time for rest, for us and for our bodies. So let's follow the advice of experts from around the world to take care of our health. Let's focus on prevention: we don't need any specific treatment, psychiatry or overrated coaching, simply a healthy lifestyle.
- Limit processed foods.
It no longer needs to be proven; the data is unanimous: diet plays a major role in our health and in disease prevention. Keep up the good habits from lockdown and continue cooking. Be creative, innovate, create, dare to be original. Add colour and life to your plates to boost your immune system. Don't forget that eating starts with the eyes. Treat yourself and do yourself some good. Take inspiration from cuisines around the world thanks to digital resources and bring happiness to your dishes.
- Eat more vegetables and fresh fruit.
Fill up on vitality and vitamins with vegetables, fresh or dried fruit, and whole grains. Your body needs them, and so does your immune system. Summer is the season for all kinds of indulgence! Their fibre lowers blood sugar levels and improves intestinal transit. No more diabetes or chronic pain, a flat stomach and well-being guaranteed! You don't even need to go out: have good fresh produce, seasonal fruit and vegetable baskets delivered directly to your address, saving time and ensuring you always have them close at hand.
- Don't overdo the barbecues.
After lockdown, it's pure happiness! Long live barbecues with friends or family, getting together and enjoying some time outdoors. Unfortunately, this cooking method causes many problems. We now know that food grilled on a barbecue produces carcinogenic compounds. Instead, choose lean meat (for non-vegetarians) and remember to remove any browned or burnt parts from your food. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruit to eliminate these toxic compounds.
- Choose antioxidant-rich foods.
Berries, walnuts, hazelnuts, spirulina, acai berries, goji berries, chia seeds, quinoa… all these foods are rich in antioxidants and can be eaten freely. They are the best way to protect our cells and tissues from external damage responsible for the ageing of the body. You don't need a vitamin complex; fill your plate with vitamins and keep illness at bay.
- Get some sun.
Sunshine is good for our health and happiness. It contributes to our overall well-being. The sun provides us with a concentrated dose of vitamin D, regulates the production of the happiness hormone, improves tissue oxygenation, alleviates certain skin conditions such as eczema and, above all, boosts our immune system. The result: we regain our energy, have a lovely complexion and are less vulnerable to infections, germs and inflammation.
- Stay hydrated.
Stay hydrated with water as well as juices (choose vegetable juices over sweeter fruit juices), smoothies, coconut water, aloe vera juice and iced tea… You have plenty of options for refreshing yourself while staying hydrated. Drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day. If you spend time in the sun or exercise, remember to increase the amount.
- Take 10,000 steps a day.
Over the past few months, the number of steps we take each day has plummeted. It's time to bring up our average by making the most of the sunshine and fine weather. Walking for 45 minutes to 1 hour a day provides many benefits. Walking oxygenates the brain, improves blood circulation, strengthens the heart, tones the respiratory system, speeds up the elimination of toxins, aids digestion and releases endorphins, putting us in a good mood and combating stress and anxiety. In short, it's a great physical activity to enjoy with your loved ones and suitable for all ages. Walking is therefore excellent for looking after both our physical and mental health. Many blogs and websites are full of content, information and practical guides to help you get started with walking, with the added bonus of ideas for walks near you. Find out more!
- Don't forget to rest.
In summer, and especially after lockdown, all we want to do is 10,000 things. Don't forget to listen to yourself. Listening carefully to yourself is the key to good health. Maintain a good sleep routine. And even during the day, make time to rest. Take a moment to have a break from your life. Open the windows, get some fresh air, listen to the sounds of the street, and consciously enjoy a herbal tea while looking at the sky. Reconnect with your emotions. The link between your physical health and well-being is well established. The mind needs to rest, even if only for a few seconds during the day. Experts around the world will tell you: rest is the key to keeping illness at bay and ensuring your happiness.
Wishing you a beautiful, caring summer!
